1001 Books You Must Read before You Die

A few years ago, I got this amazing book, 1001 Books You Must Read before You Die. I find it really interesting to go through the book every once in a while to look at what the book has to say about a specific book. I also like to go through it to see which ones I've read, or which ones I should read.

I would love to compile a list like this. Again, this is another cool job that I would never imagine existed.

For you avid readers, I'm sure you've read a lot on this list, but if you want some ideas of what to read, check out the list below.

I checked this out of the library once. There is a whole series of them. 1001 paintings, 1001 movies, 1001 musical pieces, etc. I don't really like this list. It's all novels, for one thing, which is fine, I like novels, but "books" suggests, well, everything. For another thing, all the recent books on the list, and the way they are written about, make it seem almost like a desperate attempt at promoting the current publishing industry rather than a dispassionate consideration of the world's greatest novels. Still, such things are fun to leaf through. I remember there was a great picture of Graham Greene pouring himself a whiskey and looking like a complete sot. I think I had read around 110 of the books on this list at the time. One at least that you can skip without losing too much sleep: Euphues by John Lyly.

I'm amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that's
equally educative and amusing, and let me tell you,
you've hit the nail on the head. The problem is something which too few people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy I came across this during my search for something concerning this.
