I must admit: I am a huge, huge fan of the UPS commercial guy. I needed to get that off my chest.
Watch a commercial here. Or check out the whiteboard website here where he is surrounded by his whiteboard drawings on the website. Sidenote: If you search YouTube for these commercials, there are so many spoofs. I wonder if any are even worth watching or are funny...
My admiration lies in his ability to draw such creative little pictures with perfectly straight lines, and they start from just a simple shape and turn into something crazy like a UPS truck or a flight going to Paris! Not to mention the cool music that accompanies his drawings either...
I wish I could draw like this guy. The commercial is such a good idea--I give it a lot of credit because it hooks me. Other commercials, in my opinion, just get annoying, boring, redundant, or are just plain non-creative. And, I must mention, this is a smart move for UPS because it looks like a very cheap commercial to film over and over again. Props to them. I don't know what it is about this commercial, but every time it's on, I stop what I'm doing to watch.
However, I do have some criticism. Recent UPS commercials have started incorporating animation, so the drawings he does actually come to life and scurry across his whiteboard. Not a big fan. The best part of the commercial was in the awe that he could draw like that. Making them animated takes away that freshness that he's creating something so cool with just a marker and a whiteboard. I don't even bother watching those. It's going too far with a cool idea. Just keep it the same and change it every so often!
How many takes do you think this guy does before he gets the picture perfect anyway?
Do you like these commercials? Which are your favorite? Do you like the new animation they use? What commercials do you like then if this one doesn't interest you?
